Málaga in 3 days: a slow itinerary

A relaxed 3-day plan for Málaga: old town, museums and markets, and a final day by the sea. With real stops from our local guide.

Three days are plenty to see Málaga without rushing —as long as you don’t try to see everything. This is the route we recommend to our guests: a mix of must-sees, museums, market and sea, designed to be done on foot and at a gentle pace. Slow travel, which is why you came.

Day 1 — The historic heart

Start early at the Alcazaba and the Roman Theatre, climb (or take the lift) up to Gibralfaro Castle for the views, then come down to the Cathedral —“la Manquita”. Have tapas around the centre and keep the afternoon for Calle Larios, Plaza de la Constitución and a coffee on a terrace. At sunset, stroll along Muelle Uno and the port.

Day 2 — Museums, market and tapas

Málaga is a city of museums: pick according to taste between the Picasso Museum, his birthplace house, the Thyssen or the seafront Centre Pompidou. Mid-morning, wander through the Atarazanas Market and graze at its stalls. In the afternoon, get lost in the Soho district and its murals, and have tapas dinner where the locals do.

Day 3 — Sea and neighbourhoods

Spend the last day on Málaga’s seaside. Have breakfast facing the beach in Huelin, walk the Antonio Banderas promenade and take a dip (or a bike ride along the cycle lane). Finish with espetos —grilled sardines— at a beach bar and, if you have the energy, head to Baños del Carmen at sunset. A perfect way to close the trip.

Where to stay for this plan

For days 1 and 2, an apartment in or just off the centre saves you transport. For the beach day, staying in Huelin is a treat. Whatever your pace, all our apartments are within walking distance of what matters and can be booked direct, at the best price.
