Málaga CF back in LaLiga: a Rosaleda guide

Málaga CF are back in LaLiga after the playoffs. How to experience a match at La Rosaleda and where to stay a 10-minute walk from the stadium.

Top-flight nights are back at La Rosaleda. Eight years after relegation, Málaga CF have sealed their return to LaLiga through the play-offs, and the city is celebrating as it should. If your trip coincides with a match, ninety minutes at La Rosaleda is one of the most thrilling things to do in Málaga — and it's a short walk from our apartments.

The return to the top flight

After a strong season —fourth in the regular table— Málaga came through the promotion play-offs, getting past UD Las Palmas in the semi-finals and Almería in the final, with the first leg played at a packed Rosaleda. The blue-and-white faithful can once again dream of hosting Spanish football’s giants.

La Rosaleda, the heart of the club

On the banks of the Guadalmedina river, in the Martiricos district, La Rosaleda is one of Spain's most storied grounds: opened in 1941 and holding around 30,000 spectators. On matchdays the Frente Bokerón end roars from the first minute and the atmosphere spills out across the neighbourhood. Even when Málaga aren't playing, walking past at dusk is worth it.

How to get tickets

Tickets are sold through the club’s official channels (malagacf.com). For the big games they fly: members get priority and the ground sells out, so it pays to buy as soon as each matchday goes on sale and to steer clear of touts. If you already know your dates, watch the LaLiga fixture list as soon as it’s published.

A 10-minute walk from the stadium

Here we have the edge: our El Molinillo apartments, on Calle Duque de Rivas, are about a 10-minute walk from La Rosaleda. No driving, no hunting for impossible parking, no waiting for transport: you leave home, watch the match and walk back amid the blue-and-white tide. And the other way, the old town is seven minutes away, so the same apartment works for the football and for everything else.

Before and after the match

The full plan: tapas beforehand around the neighbourhood or the centre, a walk up to the ground, and a beer in El Molinillo to celebrate (or commiserate). Steps away you have the Salamanca market and a good handful of lifelong bars —they’re in our Málaga guide— so matchday is far more than ninety minutes.
